Suffering from breakouts under your mask? 😷

Acne, isn’t the only skin condition reported by mask wearers. Other common face mask skin problems include:

• Allergic contact dermatitis – Some manufactured masks may contain a chemical that causes an allergic reaction. Formaldehyde and bronopol can be found in polypropylene surgical masks. ICK!!! This is why we love our locally upcycled cotton reusable face masks.

• Rosacea – Classically worsened by heat and stress, mask wearing can increase flares.

How to prevent "maskne":

1. Choose a fragrance-free laundry soap – Fragrances can irritate your skin — skip the fabric softener, too. Our Tru Earth laundry detergent is fragrance free and our wool dryer balls replace toxic dryer sheets.

2. Wash your face first – Use a gentle cleanser that is free of fragrance and oil and rinse with lukewarm water. Prevents dirt and oil from being trapped on the skin surface, which cause breakouts.

3. Apply a moisturizer – Not only will this keep your skin hydrated, it will also act as a barrier between your face and your mask, reducing friction. Try out organic beeswax zero waste lotion melt bars for lips, face and body.

4. Ditch the makeup – Wearing skin makeup under a mask causes clogged pores and breakouts. Makeup residue will also soil your mask. But we have amazing $6 stain remover bars that will get it out if you must wear makeup.

5. Wash your mask – If wearing a cotton mask wash it after each use as its surface contains dirt and oil and can become a breeding ground for bacteria from your nose and mouth.

6. Change your mask often. Does it get damp? Switch to a fresh one.

As a special treat during these stressful times, we are having a back to school sale with Tru Earth Laundry Strips on sale for $19 (usually $22!). This sale will go on while quantities last as a heads up.
